Heres Why You Should Watch Formula E.

The sixth season of the FIA Formula e championship is underway, with it’s third e-prix taking place over the weekend in Santiago – Capital of Chile. But if you don’t know what Formula e is, why should you care I hear you ask.

Well, the FIA Formula e Championship is the world’s premier green motorsport utlising state-of-the-art electric cars to race around the greatest city streets on the planet.

THE MISSION

The mission of Formula e is to showcase the bleeding edge of sustainable technology, with 12 top-class manufacturers using knowledge gained on the track to improve electric cars on the road. Not only that, but it’s fast, fun and the most competitive motorsport on Earth.

THE TEAMS

FE has 12 teams competing including Jaguar, Porsche, Mercedes, BMW, Virgin, Nio, Venturi, Mahindra, Dragon, Audi, Techeetah & Nissan.

THE CARS

We’re on the GEN2 Formula e car now. It looks stunning, with speeds up to 280km/h. It can go from 0-100km/h in 2.8-seconds!

THE INNOVATIONS

A number of amazing innovations make Formula e even better to watch than traditional motorsport, including

  • Attack mode – Drivers go off the racing line to cross over sensors embedded in the track. While they lose speed and possible positions doing this, it gives the car a massive boost of 35 kW of power which catapults them around the track. Each race has two Attack modes to take, each with four minuits of increased power. Think of it as a real-life Mario Kart senario! The car’s HALO will display blue lights whilst using Attack mode.
  • Fanboost – The five drivers with the most Fanboost votes are awarded a significant burst of power, which they can deploy in a 5 second window during the second half of the race. You can vote to Fanboost your favourite driver in the 6 days prior to, and leading up to 15 minutes into, each race. The car’s HALO will display purple lights whilst using Attack mode.
  • Driver’s eye – watch the action from behind the visor of your favorite driver. See what they see. Feel what they feel.

THE DRIVERS

With 24 drivers in 24 cars speeding around the city circuits, things can get messy! The wheel-to-wheel action is taken in by the crowds in grandstands and along the track.

These drivers are the best in the world. They genuinly care about the future of the planet, and are ambassodors for sustainability and green tech. They interact with the fans through social media and ask the world to look for a solution to the climate crisis.

Formula e is now the desired career path of the best drivers, eshewing Formula 1 for the green championship in it’s place.
